I biked from Bernau to Eberswalde last Sunday. It was a beautiful ride. I should’ve done this before.
Summary
- Route: Bernau – Bunker Ladeburg – Biesenthal– Eberswalde
- Distance: 32 km
- Duration: 2 hours
- Road condition: Well-maintained asphalt bike roads inside the forest
- Logistics:
- Berlin to Bernau: RE3 or S2.
- Eberswalde to Berlin: R3.
- You need to buy a bike ticket for both travels.
- Overall: I really liked the path and nature around. I’d like to do again.

Notes
- I took S2 from Gesundbrunnen to Bernau train station. Regional bahn (RE3) would have been faster but didn’t want to wait next Regio. I took R3 from Eberswalde to Berlin on my way back. There is no S2 from Eberwalde. You need to buy bike tickets.
- I formed the route from Google Maps. My plan was to stop by at Bunker Ladeburg which looks like a very cool DDR museum. I didn’t enter the museum though. They work with appointment and I didn’t have one.
- My favorite part was between the bunker and Biesenthal. I biked through the forest (Biesenthaler Becken). The nature around the path is just amazing.
- The bike roads were all well-maintained and well-connected. Only 1 km or less was a dirt road.
- I didn’t know we have so many bike routes up there! I’d like to try different alternatives next time.
